General Practice
The Department of General Practice is focused on the development of academic health in primary care, by carrying out research, education and health care innovations in an integrated context. The main research themes of the department are heart disease, diabetes, infectious diseases and health care innovations in primary care.
Education
The department provides education in General Practice for 350 medical students, has 250 doctors in training, and provides postgraduate education for an audience of over 500 GPs. In addition, the department the training Diabetes Mellitus and Supervision. The Department of General Practice is further connected to the Post-Academic Education for General Practitioners (in Dutch PAO-H). The PAO-H organizes a number of refresher courses for GPs and GPs in training.
Research
The research of the department of General Practice focuses on improving and supporting diagnosis and treatment of relevant disorders in general practice, with a thematic focus on infectious diseases, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In addition, the research department care innovations in primary care, particularly in the areas of disease management, patient safety, e-health and self-management. This study will also use the networks of the department, such as the Julius Huisartsen Netwerk, the Leidsche Rijn Health Project and the elderly network called NUZO.
Care
In the academic practice of Julius health care centers in primary care innovations are developed and evaluated in a population of 34,000 patients.
