Noor Giesbertz wins poster prize at HandsOnBiobanks Congress

Noor Giesbertz, PhD student at UMC Utrecht Julius Center, has received the 2nd prize for her poster on the HandsOnBiobanks Congress . Noor Giesbertz received the award for her research poster on "The role of children in Their inclusion in pediatric biobanks".
In her doctoral research Noor Giesbertz examines the conditions under which children can participate in biobank research in an ethical manner. The poster presents studies how children are involved in the authorization procedure in four existing biobanks. A biobank is a collection of body material is stored for medical research.
Noor Giesbertz : "One result of the study is that biobanks may have several motives to involve children in the decisionmaking. The motifs have an effect on the final interpretation of the role children. To do justice to the child, it is important that ‘respect for the child' is the guiding motive."
The jury assessed the poster content, design , and oral presentation, and on that basis the second prize was awarded. "I am proud to receive this award and accompanying certificate," Noor Giesbertz said.
